Interactive Visual Performance

In partnership with the Broward County Cultural Division, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport presents The Transition by artist Parmo in Terminal 1, Concourse C, Art Gallery. The installation will be on view until December 2024.

The Transition is an immersive exploration of the intersection between art, technology, and architectural heritage. This interactive, time-based video installation, mounted on the wall, invites viewers on a journey through the geometric and mathematical logic of Safavieh architecture. A midi-controller device allows generative forms to be shaped and manipulated in real-time. Drawing inspiration from Safavieh’s spatial values and architectural principles, The Transition is a homage to the intricate symmetry, reflection, and geometric order in the fifteenth century. High-end software such as Touch Designer, creative coding, and a midi-controller device allow generative forms to be shaped and manipulated in real-time. These techniques are leveraged to breathe new life into these ancient designs, creating abstract visual forms that evolve and morph before the viewer’s eyes. Each designed pattern and element has a technical name.

Projection mapping and the strategic use of cheesecloth further enrich the viewer’s experience, providing depth and tangibility to the digital realm. As viewers navigate space, they are encouraged to engage with the artwork, exploring the nuances of each pattern and element, each with its architectural significance.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, The Transition catalyzes deeper reflection and exploration. By raising awareness of historical architectural assets and fostering cultural appreciation, dialogue is sparked, and innovation in architectural design is inspired. By integrating essential visual elements, viewers are invited to reimagine the possibilities of spatial expression and creativity.
