OASIS

Video Installation and Real-Time Interactive Design

Oasis is a fiction project made of five works that address environmental degradation as a direct consequence of human consumption. These pieces combine narrative elements with interactive technology to highlight the urgent need for sustainability. This project integrates 3D design, VFX animation, creative coding, and interactive systems. In Oasis, human beings are depicted as trapped in the cycle of mass production, juxtaposed with the very products they create. As they progress through various factory stages, they adopt iconic poses to pop culture, symbolizing ideals of intellectuality and morality shaped by societal norms in the human factory,(#1) and (#2), which are 3d animation and have been enhanced for frame rates and resolution by AI-driven process. This journey culminates at a “media altar,” demonstrated through a video installation called You Are Watched (#3) and rendered live in Touch Designer by a midi-controller combined with 2d animation displayed in CRT TVs. It represents the pervasive influence of advertising and media, where the individual fully transforms into the consumer and the product they desire to embody and supply in You Are What You Demand (#4). This piece uses Kinect technology and generative design in Touch Designer to critique consumer-driven labor exploitation and environmental degradation. By masking participants with logos of the brands they consume, the project underscores the connection between consumer behavior and its global consequences, prompting reflection on mass production’s societal and ecological costs. In contrast to this manufactured process, interactively designed installations, such as the Requiem for a Waterfall (#5), symbolize nature’s resilience and purity. Surrounded by waste and plastic, it highlights the environmental toll of consumer-driven activities. Developed using Leap Motion programmed in Touch Designer and Unreal Engine for water particle simulation. Through these works, I invite audiences to reflect on their role within the production, consumption, and environmental impact cycle, drawing attention to how human actions shape and are shaped by their surroundings.
